About the Library's Collection

At the Sanibel Public Library islanders find an oasis within their island - an atmosphere charged with creativity and the lively exchange of ideas. The Library holds an integral place in the community. Islanders come to read, learn, interact, and stir their souls. Our vital Library - with its latest in books, programs, and electronic tools - is their ultimate sanctuary. A place of enlightenment under the Sanibel sun.

Sanibel Public Library is extraordinary and progressive in many unique ways. Architecturally designed to blend with nature, our original 19,162 sq. ft. home was built in 1994. Our recent building expansion was completed in September 2004, adding another 10,386 sq. ft. - for a total building size of 29,548 sq. ft. Independently owned by local residents, this barrier island oasis consists of a stunning two-story lobby fossil shell collection from Florida and the Caribbean, as well as a lakeview reading porch with rocking chairs.

Our collection of more than 60,000 titles is easily accessed through both our fully automated online catalog and across the Internet.
